At the beginning of the 19th century the first state enterprise was built in the city of Chistopol. It was a wine storehouse where vodka was purified and bottled. It became the forebear of the present Chistopol Distillery. The storehouse adjoined the alcohol purifying plant that belonged to General A.A. Levashov.
Later on, during the years of the so called “dry law” in the time of Imperialistic and Civil wars the fancy for good vodka was lost and the manufacturing facilities of the storehouse were occupied by quarters and later – by wholesale beer store. In 1934 on the basis of the broken beer storehouse Chistopol Distillery was opened. Afterwards the manufacturing at the plant was greatly restrained by the Second Watch Factory evacuated from Moscow. The latter occupied 80 % of the manufacturing facilities and it protracted its removal for almost half a century. The manufacture was quartered in several rooms and the most primitive methods were used. The plant hadn’t a single alcohol-carrier and production capacity represented several sorting tanks with bulky coal columns and sand filters. During those war years vodka was made only from potato alcohol.
The fight with devastation and desolation began in the 60-ies, when a new director I.F. Gimayev came to the plant. He was a war participant and a legendary person.
Since 1967 till 1972 the total rearrangement of the plant was carried out. After construction of the 30-meter gallery and erection of 2 automatic lines at the level of 3 storeys the production of vodka and liqueurs was joined into united process chain. At present it is completely automated and supplied with the equipment of the Italian Company “Vir Mauri” that makes it possible to increase the output up to 12,000 bottles per hour. The inversely osmotic device for purification and softening of water makes its quality close to that of distilled water as much as possible without affecting its natural characteristics as it is the case with distilled water.
The high level of production can be traced in everything: in carefully restored buildings where old architectural style was preserved, in well-groomed territory, in proper order and cleanness in the departments. The produce of Chistopol Distillery is made from Tatarstan high-quality alcohol and the Kama water famous for its softness, which is purified on molecular level. The taste of each drink is considered to be the property of the collective of the plant and it is estimated at its true worth at specialized exhibitions and degustations. Thus, vodka “Elitnaya Gimayevskaya” is the gold medallist of the 3rd International contest of alcoholic drinks that took place in Moscow in 1999. It is also the gold medallist of the tasting contest “Prodexpo 2000” and “Prodexpo 2001”, the gold medallist of “Wine and Vodka Fair in St. Petersburg” in 2001, the gold medallist of the exhibition “Wine-Vodka-Tobacco 2000”. Vodka “Prestizhnaya Gimayevskaya” is the gold medallist of “Wine and Vodka Fair in St. Petersburg” in 1998, the gold medallist of the exhibition “Wine-Vodka-Tobacco 2000”. Vodkas “Chistopolskaya”, “Chistopolskaya Yubileinaya”, balsam “Chistai” were also found the very best.
On June 17, 2001 Chistopol Distillery celebrated its centenary. Armed with super modern technologies and guided by century-old traditions and great experience, the plant enters in the second century of its history with confidence.
