Mamadyshsky spirit and vodka plant is one of the oldest enterprises in Mamadysh. It was founded in 1883 by the local merchant Nikonor Shcherbakov. For the most part the plant occupied wooden buildings; it was based on the primitive equipment and technology and was a kind of amateurish works. Only spirit department was working at that time and it produced 300 decalitres a day. The whole labour activity was manual.
As a result of the October revolution Shcherbakov lost great profit. He was very upset and wanting to take revenge he made the workers break the equipment. The plant was destroyed so much that it was reconstructed only in the early 1930-ies.
During the first modernization in 1936 many changes were made. Vodka department, laboratory, fermentation room and engine-room were placed in the new building. One more steam-boiler was put in operation. Water was supplied from the Vyatka river. The processing of raw material – grain and potato – was improved. As a result of all the innovations alcohol output was increased up to 1200 decalitres a day.
Due to reequipment nowadays the plant is a high-productivity enterprise. In November 1999 the department producing fodder yeast from stillage remaining after alcohol production with the output of 200 ton a day was put in operation. Great demand for fodder yeast determines the necessity of the increase of its production.
New equipment installed at the plant makes it possible to produce 3000 decalitres of alcohol of higher purification, “Extra” and “De luxe” grades. In August 2000 the new filling line for vodka with the output of 2500 decalitres a day was started up.
On the basis of further improvement of technology it has become possible to get extra 2.09 decalitres of alcohol from each ton of raw material.
